Abstract

Kiai Moch. Djamaluddin Tambakberas as the community knows him, is often notabeed as Kiai in charge of Sufism studies by the people of Jombang and its surroundings. How not, this kiai who is familiarly called Kiai Djamal, has been a caregiver for Al-Hikam routine studies for decades at his Islamic Boarding School Bumi Damai Al-Muhibbin Tambakberas Jombang. Moreover, with the same study theme, Kiai Djamal also took care of several routine studies in several areas around East Java, including; Nganjuk, Sidoarjo, Surabaya, Tuban Bojonegoro and others.

This research is a qualitative research with a phenomenological perspective. Phenomenological studies are perspectives that focus on individual experiences and interpretations of the world. Phemonenology is also interpreted as a method of searching for psychological meanings that shape symptoms through investigation and analysis of examples of symptoms experienced by participants

This study aims to examine more sharply, how Kiai Djamal's thinking patterns about Sufism teachings, especially in the composition of knitting Al-Hikam studies that have been pursued.  The results of this study show, even Kiai Djamal is a kiai figure who mastered the study of Sufism in the book of Al-Hikam, not only in terms of material but also practice, not from the scientific side but also the amaliah, so that after his death, pilgrims and students gave the title to Kiai Djamal with the title Kiai Faqihan wa Shufihan.
